My main scientific interest is in the mucosal and developmental immunology and immunopathology of the gut. Research in our laboratory is focused on the effects of environmental factors (mainly microbiota and food antigens) on the developing immune system and their role in etiopathogenesis of inflammatory and neoplastic diseases. Unique models of animals reared under germ-free and gnotobiological (microbiota defined) conditions to study the host – microbiota interaction are used. In recent years we are also using genetically manipulated mouse models of human diseases to analyze the mechanisms of innate and adaptive immunity participating in autoimmune diseases and cancer. We are focusing on the role of molecules related to bacteria recognition and inflammatory pathway regulators. | ||
